ASSA ABLOY, one of the world's largest manufacturers of locks, doors, gates, and access solutions, sought to modernize its sales process by developing a B2B eCommerce platform for its Mexico-based distributors. With a new platform, ASSA ABLOY aimed to streamline purchasing, reduce reliance on traditional sales interactions, and unlock new sales potential in the digital market.

The Challenge

For ASSA ABLOY's B2B customers, completing a purchase was traditionally a slow, multi-step process requiring extensive back-and-forth through calls, emails, and meetings with sales representatives. This time-consuming process was not only cumbersome for the customer, it also limited sales efficiency and volume for ASSA ABLOY.

To enhance convenience and accessibility for its distributors, ASSA ABLOY wanted to create an online sales portal that would allow customers to place orders independently, at any time, without requiring sales intervention.

The Strategy

Working together to support ASSA ABLOY's objectives, the Orium and ASSA ABLOY teams conducted a comprehensive review of commerce platforms and selected BigCommerce as the ideal platform for this project. BigCommerce's specialized B2B capabilities would allow for seamless catalog browsing, inventory visibility, custom pricing, and credit-based purchasing— all crucial features of ASSA ABLOY's upgraded vision for their digital customer experience.

By tailoring the customer journey through a combination of UX design, platform customization, and integration with ASSA ABLOY's ERP system, the new eCommerce site would be equipped to meet the unique needs of the business and its customers.

The Solution

The project's success relied on a multifaceted approach, beginning with a core platform built on BigCommerce and custom-where-it-counts development. Building off BigCommerce's B2B optimized platform, we worked together to create an optimized interface, leveraging strategic integrations and custom development to ensure the final experience could meet ASSA ABLOY's expectations for an elevated customer experience while aligning with their brand guidelines.

With the strong commerce foundation in place, our teams worked together to connect the new BigCommerce platform with ASSA ABLOY's ERP, enabling real-time data exchange. This connection allowed for accurate product availability, pricing per client, credit line management, and seamless order processing.

The teams also enabled functionality such as CSV upload for bulk orders—crucial for scaling B2B businesses—to allow buyers to quickly place large orders. Customers can also access customized pricing, purchase on credit, and enjoy user-role-based permissions for a controlled and personalized experience.

Throughout the project, the Orium and ASSA ABLOY teams worked together collaboratively to ensure alignment with business objectives and the delivery of high-quality results.
